Before going to Amsterdam I found out that the winner of the Bologna Book Fair prize for fiction was a Dutch book. On the last day I had the chance to go and find a copy of De Boomhut (The Treehouse) by Ronald and Marije Tolman. It’s HUGE! It has no text, meaning that the reader can decide on the story. There are plenty of ways to interpret the story, as the colours change on every page, water levels go down, animals come and go etc. Only the treehouse stays constant, in fact, the same illustration is used in the same position on every page. Only the animals move and interact with it.
